Metro is getting rid of the 1000 and 4000 series railcars. That’s great… mostly.
Metro announced on Wednesday that all 1000 and 4000-series railcars will be gone by the end of the month. This might sound good because the 1000s and 4000s don’t work well, but it’s only happening because fewer trains will be running starting June 25th. Keep reading…

Metro put up big red boxes to stop people bypassing the fare gates
If you ride Metro with any regularity, I'm sure you've seen a person or two walk straight through the swinging metal gates next to the gates where you swipe your SmarTrip card. At Gallery Place and Fort Totten, there are now signs, cardboard barriers, and alarms in place to make people think twice before they do that. Keep reading…

When the Metro first arrived in Shaw and Columbia Heights, they were far different than they are today
During rush hour, northbound Yellow Line trains need to reverse direction at Mount Vernon Square because there isn’t enough capacity for all of them to run to Greenbelt. That’s because when Metro designed the Yellow Line, it was hard to imagine neighborhoods like Shaw and U Street developing as rapidly as they did. Keep reading…
